Makeup Trends from Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016

Makeup Trends from Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016

Sep 1, 2016Bridal Fashion and Beauty

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 was all about adding shimmer to the eyelids and keeping the rest of the face fresh and luminous. Bridal makeup trends have evolved into a subtle, minimalist art and there was plenty of inspiration at the Lakme Fashion Week.

Terracotta Accents

Donald Simrock, Lakmé Fashion Week Makeup Expert, for Anuradha Pegu added terracotta accents to the cheeks and eyes. He accented the inner corner of the eyes in copper with gold highlights while the lips were toned in an earthy matte.

Recreate this look: Use the new Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye shadow in French Rose to add a slight shimmer to the eyelids for a soft glow. Bring a warm luminosity to the cheeks with Lakmé Absolute Shimmer Brick in Coral.

The Undone Look

Natasha Nischol, Lakmé Fashion Week Makeup Expert, for Kallol Datta, kept it natural and minimal bringing drama to the catwalk with the stunning reverse-lip-pigment in auburn and gold tones.

Recreate this look: Get creative! Use the liquid gold Lakmé Absolute Shine Line on the lips. Play with shimmer on the eyes using theLakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette in Gold.

The Bronzed Face

Natasha Nischol, Lakmé Fashion Week Makeup Expert, for Sanjay Garg, Raw Mango. Nischol channeled the origins of man when shecreated the ‘suggestion of the ape’, a powerful visage created by blocking the whole face from the eyebrows to the lips by keeping the face blank and then creating an ‘ape’ contour airbrushed onto the eye region.

Recreate this look: Use the new Lakmé Absolute Bronzer to create your own version of the bronzed face look. Bring shimmer with the Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Palette in Gold.

Metallic Hues

Donald Simrock, Lakmé Fashion Week Makeup Expert, for Gaurang, wanted to keep it fresh and distinctively ethnic. So he created astriking composite of traditional Indian looks that blended earthy colours piqued with metallic hues and the shimmer of the hot sun over the subcontinent.

Recreate this look: Start with the brown and golden hues with shimmer from the Lakme Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette in Gold. Recreate the definition on the lips with the darker shades of Lakmé Absolute Lip Shimmer in Chestnut Shimmer.

Groom and Groomsmen go sleek and stylish with WeddingSutra Favourites

Groom and Groomsmen go sleek and stylish with WeddingSutra Favourites

Sep 1, 2016All About Grooms, Bridal Fashion and Beauty

Brides may command the lion’s share of the attention – of the designers, make-up artists, hair stylists and pampering at weddings, but a groom and his groomsmen have no excuse to be slackers!

It’s not all about vanity either. High definition wedding videos and professional photography capture every little detail for posterity. Poised, primped and beautifully put together, brides prepare for the scrutiny – so the ‘dulha’, no less a star at his own wedding, should ideally complement his perfect bride.

And that’s exactly what WeddingSutra had in mind for this groom and his groomsmen at an exclusive editorial shoot at The Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel, Powai. Styling, makeovers and a chance to showcase the top looks of this wedding season by Anita Dongre, we also invited the bride-to-be to give the day ‘real wedding’ vibe.

Wedding sutra-0572

The day began with some luxe pampering at the hotel’s decadent suite where the groom and his guys received some expert hair styling and skincare tips from grooming experts. Then it was time to try on some trendy ensembles courtesy Anita Dongre.

The gentlemen went ethnic – different silhouettes in shades of grey and black for the groomsmen; slate bandhgalas, Nehru jackets and long kurtas with churidaars. The groom himself looked regal in an ink blue sherwani with a pearl churidaar. Dapper pocket squares from Anita Dongre and SS Homme added a certain je ne sais quoi to the looks. With classic does from Trumpet and Ruosh and platinum bracelets from Gehna Jewellers, the team was ready to ace the wedding shoot.

The good natured ribbing, bonhomie and camaraderie between the boys was captured brilliantly by photographer Arjun Menon as they posed alone and with the bride at the hotel’s Italian restaurant, Fratelli Fresh.

The entire troupe looked great but it was hard to keep these young, adventurous and stylish people away from the Volkswagen Beetle parked in the hotel driveway. An iconic automobile with a reputation for being quirky, fun and the epitome of cool, the Beetle seemed to represent these gorgeous young people, all formally turned out for their wedding shoot, at the start of their journeys and adventures in life. Brave and hopeful and beautiful, ready to make a lifetime of new memories, we bid this bunch a Beetle bon voyage!

Love Actually – Kiran Ganwani and Vipul Kadam’s Platinum Day of Love

Love Actually – Kiran Ganwani and Vipul Kadam’s Platinum Day of Love

Aug 31, 2016Love Actually, Precious Platinum

Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates beautiful people as they start their lives together, knowing their love is timeless.

Like so many urban Indian stories, Vipul and Kiran knew each other from glances across the short distance between their homes. “Our balconies faced each other,” Vipul says, “So we’d peek into each other’s homes hoping to see each other.” Vipul, who works in the paper and chemical industry, is an introvert so it fell upon his sister to take the initiative and introduce him to Kiran. “I was 17 and she was 14 when we first met,” he remembers, “I liked her right away. Her bubbly, friendly personality attracted me to her instantly.”

IMG_0359

IMG_0359

As time went by and they got older, their friendship graduated into date nights and regular phone calls and soon these childhood sweethearts realised there was something deeper to this relationship. After seven years of dating, Kiran proposed to Vipul. He smiles, “She knew I was too shy to make the first move. She understood and when she proposed to me, I said yes immediately!“

IMG_0419

IMG_0419

It wasn’t as easy convincing the families. Vipul is Maharashtrian and Kiran is Sindhi and it took a year, though Vipul says, “Once I introduced Kiran to my family they all immediately really liked her!”

IMG_0175a

IMG_0175a

With the wedding and engagement scheduled for next year, the couple is not too overwrought with wedding preparations. Vipul has conveniently decided to just rely on his future wife’s excellent taste and judgement, “She is very good at this. I just help her whenever necessary.” The wedding will be a traditional Maharashtrian ceremony as a nod to Vipul’s family and will feature a strictly vegetarian menu with both Maharashtrian and Sindhi influences.

Kiran has taken time off from studying to be a lawyer to plan the wedding and recommends WeddingSutra as a comrade in arms. The ‘fun’ aspect was a bonus. Describing the experience as phenomenal, she says, “Our friends were featured on ‘Love Actually’ last year and that is how we first heard about it. We wrote in to WeddingSutra and were delighted when we were called for the shoot. It was a dream come true for me!”

IMG_0086

IMG_0086

The location for their shoot was Mumbai’s newest luxury hotel– Taj Santacruz. The expansive lobby at Taj Santacruz surrounded by Indian artefacts and the soft light emerging from the overhead crystal and glass chandeliers provided an opulent backdrop to the shoot. And with its distinctive design, spacious rooms and warm service, it was truly a delight for Team WeddingSutra to spend the day and photograph the beautiful couple at the hotel.

IMG_0269-2

IMG_0269-2

While the shoot went on, the bride-to-be talked about why they love Platinum love bands. “We’ve always thought of having platinum bands for us. Simple yet elegant, they are a beautiful symbol to signify love and togetherness.” WeddingSutra wishes Kiran and Vipul a wonderful ‘Happily Ever After’ – may the precious bond of everlasting love add more happiness and joy in their marriage!

If you’re getting married in 2016 or 2017 and would like to be a part of ‘Love Actually’ write to us (weddingsutra@gmail.com) with the link to your FB profiles, wedding date and ‘How you met’ story. Selected couples will be invited for the shoots in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

When Modernity met tradition: WeddingSutra’s Destination Wedding Masterclass

Aug 30, 2016WeddingSutra Masterclass and WS Engage

WeddingSutra hosted its latest ‘Destination Wedding’ themed Masterclass at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu on the 27th of August 2016. The fun filled event was attended by couples on the verge of getting married, who were thrilled to not only get insights from the wedding experts, but a chance to interact with them one-on-one as well.

The event was planned to provide individual focus on different aspects of a wedding. The first sessions trained a lens on the logistics of a destination wedding and the best way to document it. There was a session on the ease and efficiency of a setting up a gift registry. The latter half of the event emphasized vanity services and planning a honeymoon.

The session kicked off with Darshan Shroff, co-owner of Momente, who dispelled several wedding-planning myths and then offered practical, budget friendly approaches to executing a successful destination wedding.

Anand Rathi, photographer and cinematographer of Reels and Frames followed Shroff’s travel-inspiring speech with a light-hearted presentation on the myriad multimedia and new media techniques available to document your wedding more efficiently. He then treated the audience to a few incredible destination-wedding films to illustrate the planning and work that goes into the seemingly effortless captures of emotions in every frame.

Then it was time to get our teeth stuck into the vanity aspect of weddings. She also addressed various questions related to dental well-being. Popular make-up artist Amrit Kaur shared some quick tips and tricks with all the brides and demonstrated some steps with a makeover which had all the brides taking notes!

Love Actually – Abhilasha and Raj’s Platinum Day of Love

Love Actually – Abhilasha and Raj’s Platinum Day of Love

Aug 29, 2016Love Actually

Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates beautiful people in love as they start their lives together: because real love is timeless.

What started as a group vacation among friends ended in a romantic liaison for Raj and Abhilasha. On a trip to Goa in January this year, with her best friend and her husband, the husband’s best friend showed up and the chance encounter led to a beautiful relationship.

WS-LA-AbhilashaRaj-56

WS-LA-AbhilashaRaj-56

Raj is from San Francisco and was instantly attracted to the friendly, affectionate Abhilasha. “I definitely wanted some quality time with her but we were always in a group so I asked her to meet me at the beach for a casual chat,” he says. The chemistry was palpable as the chat quickly turned into a soul-searching, emotionally intimate conversation. “It was a very special day,” Abhilasha remembers being comfortable enough to reveal some special wishes, “At the beach he asked me about the kind of guy I wanted to marry. I didn’t hesitate. I found myself telling him all about the kind of proposal I dreamed of.”

Little did she know…

A while later, Raj, armed with his insider information, decided to pop the question with a flash mob! “It was crazy,” he laughs, “Abhilasha was in Versova; I just had my friends tag along and we did an impromptu dance professing my love for her. I ultimately proposed to her in the middle of the bustling streets of Versova.”

Overwhelmed, Abhilasha said yes immediately and after introducing each other to their respective families. “Both families agreed almost immediately,” Abhilasha beams. The couple were engaged on Valentine’s Day this year.

They say you can’t hurry love, but this couple is in no mood to wait. They will tie the knot this October and are refreshingly relaxed about the preparations and impending responsibilities. “It’s going to be a very intimate event,” Abhilasha reasons, “It’s all happened so soon but I’m so glad it did.”

It helps that as a professional make-up artist marrying an ethnic fashion enthusiast, the decisions about the trousseau and make up are easy. Abhilasha says she will do her own make up, keeping it natural and traditional. Raj plans to wear Sikh attire for the wedding.

Over steaming cups of coffee, overlooking an overcast sky, we shot this gorgeous couple at the beautiful Presidential suite overlooking the airport runway at Taj, Santacruz. The love was evident in their eyes and their happiness was contagious during the shoot. Abhilasha slipped a platinum love band on her finger and loved the subtlety of it. “I love the idea of Platinum love bands, they look great and couples wearing matching ones just signify to me, faith in the permanence of their love.”

Kanika Agarwal and Sahil Garg’s Pre-wedding shoot in Faridabad

Kanika Agarwal’s and Sahil Garg’s Pre-wedding shoot in Faridabad

Aug 28, 2016Wedding Photography & Films

Kanika and Sahil are both Delhi-based and will be settling in Dubai soon. Kanika shares some exciting insights about her beautiful vineyard-themed pre-wedding shoot and the all the creative energy that went behind it.

Vinyard HR-40

How we met

I am a Delhi-based consultant and Sahil is into export business. A common friend played cupid and got us talking. In my mind, it was supposed to be just a casual chat but to my surprise he messaged me immediately. I do accept that the initial few seconds were awkward. But then Sahil made it so comfortable that the call lasted for more than 4 hours!

Vinyard HR13

The Proposal

Sahil and I use to have these conversations where he would invariably ask me about how I would want my ideal proposal to be like. Little did I think that he was actually going to transform my dream into reality. We consulted Happyframes Photography team from the constant suggestions from our friends. Sahil took all the inferences from our ‘proposal chats’ and knew that he had to do something different. He consulted Deepanshi of Happyframes and came up with a vineyard themed pre wedding photoshoot. Deepanshi along with Sahil planned the whole surprise. The proposal was set amid the pre wedding photoshoot. And the way it happened, it felt like I lived my dream in that moment. It was like a fairytale!

The Pre wedding shoot

The shoot had a vintage theme to it. The real task for Sahil was to actually make a vineyard place, look like one, since we don’t have them in Delhi. The location, setups and props were arranged with the help of our photography and location team. The team at Happyframes were really very helpful in putting our dream to reality. Deepanshi’s attention to detail is flawless. She does this without you even realising she is there.

Love Actually – Aashumi and Sagar’s Platinum Day of Love

Love Actually – Aashumi and Sagar’s Platinum Day of Love

Aug 22, 2016Love Actually, Precious Platinum

Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates people in love as they start their lives together – because real love can only begin, never end.

Aashumi Mehta is a chartered accountant by profession and her fiancé Sagar Jhaveri is a businessman based in Japan. They were introduced to each other by a mutual friend who found that Aashumi and Sagar had one visible thing in common – they were both quite tall. “I am 5 feet-9.5 inches tall and Sagar is 6 feet-5 inches tall. I didn’t quite believe it till I saw him in person,” shares Aashumi.

WED_8188

WED_8188

The couple got to know each other well through WhatsApp and Skype chats before they met in person. “Once Sagar came down to Mumbai, we met daily. And from our second date itself we felt very comfortable with each other,” recalls Aashumi. She states that she did not have any anxious moments about what would follow and just enjoyed going with the flow. They were both looking for a permanent relationship and the moment came without too much planning. On their fourth date, after watching a movie, Sagar suggested that Aashumi meet his parents.

WED_8289

WED_8289

She recalls, “We went there after the movie to meet them so it was around midnight when we reached his place as we hadn’t really planned it. That was the sweetest and the most awkward moment of my life. He later told me that he had always wanted to take the girl of his dreams home and introduce her to his parents saying she is the one. The next day he came and met my parents.”

There was no one particular moment when Sagar and Aashumi knew they were in love. She says that they were friends first and she wasn’t stressed about which direction their relationship would go. All she knew was that she was very happy with him as he was with her. “We were really comfortable and we never ran out of things to talk about. We met every day and started enjoying each other’s company a lot. We started as friends and that is how I wanted it to be. A month later he called me and asked whether it was a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’ from my side. I didn’t understand what he was hinting at first, then he said that it was time our parents met each other… so it was a ‘Yes’ from my side. We got formally engaged after our families met,” recounts the happy bride.

The couple chose the beautiful environs of the ITC Grand Maratha near the international airport to celebrate and capture their ‘Day of Love’ with a special Love Actually photoshoot by WeddingSutra – even though it was wet and slick with the monsoon showers. “The hotel has lovely places such as the cosy Catherine’s lounge and one of our favourite backdrops – the signature jharokhas. These turned out be perfect for our shoot with candid photographer Namit Narlawar.

The couple chose a beautiful pair of platinum wedding bands embedded with diamonds. “These were perfect for close-up shots of our hands!” says Aashumi. Their choice of platinum wedding bands embodies their belief that their love for each other will never change or fade much in the way that platinum never loses its sheen or shape over the years.

While Aashumi is very clear about her tastes and has finished most of her wedding shopping, doing the Love Actually shoot with WeddingSutra gave her lots of ideas and tips regarding make-up and hair styling that she plans to put to use on her special day. Aug 19, 2016Travel & Honeymoon

“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” – author Alan D Wolfelt.

Maybe your toes were touching under the table, maybe you didn’t dare look up from your plate at the stars in his eyes, maybe you realised you were falling in love as you pushed the last sliver of dessert towards her… All love stories are nourished by tales of meals shared, in intimacy, in celebration, in secret.

WeddingSutra picks its favourite dining experiences from the wonderful map of the Shangri-La to list some of the most evocative combinations of space, time and cuisine guaranteed to be a feast for all your senses.

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

You’re spoilt for choice at the Villingili. Your hardest task will be picking from options like Dinner in the Jungle, Jungle Lagoon Dinner, In-villa barbeque, Spa Dinners, In-Villa Romantic Dinner, the Chef’s Garden Dinner, Lunch on the Equator, Golf Course Barbeque Pit or the Mount Villingili Dinner.

We have a favourite of course – Dinner on a Luxury Yacht. There’s nothing as mesmerizing as watching a tropical sunset on the open sea. This sublime yacht will pick you up early in the evening and set off with pre-dinner cocktails and appetizers. Your personal butler for the evening will then escort you to the yacht’s elegant dining room for a gourmet dinner accompanied by the finest of wine. Safe on your beautiful boat, you’ll be set adrift in bliss.

Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul

The Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, is a sensual delight. Choose from three unique restaurants and lounges. IST TOO’s all day dining offers three winning cuisines – Asian, Mediterranean and a Japanese sushi bar. With its unbeatable view of the Bosphorus, it is a little mealtime paradise.

The heart of this hotel is the Lobby Lounge featuring a tea lounge and a bar. There’s entertainment in the evenings so you can relax in refined, romantic refuge.

Our favourite is The Shang Palace, an authentic Cantonese kitchen whose delicious menus, created by star chefs from China, are perfectly paired with Turkish and international wines selected specially by their sommelier. Its elegant dining area, booths and private dining room at both lunch and dinner make it the perfect choice for a large or intimate celebration.

The restaurant’s staff has an impeccable understanding of hospitality and ensures every diner’s experience is special.

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu

There’s a whole palette for your palate here – from contemporary Italian cuisine to family favourites. Get ready to kick back and enjoy the night away at the lively Waves Bar where a refreshing cocktail, cooling drink or light snack is never far from hand.

WeddingSutra loves the Cowrie Cove, an al fresco dining space by the expanse of the ocean. This seafood restaurant features a signature, modern menu that combines fresh, local produce and a wonderful selection of wine from around the globe. Plan a candle-lit dinner, with the ocean as the backdrop, and the finest food and wine for two.

Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, Philippines

Plan your day flitting from one gorgeous space to another. Start at the Alon Beach bar with your toes in the sand, the warm sun on your face and tropical drinks and delicious snacks on call.

Then head to Rima, hidden amongst the tree-tops overlooking the resort, an intimate hideaway for the two of you.

And if you’re looking for something even more secluded, the resort will arrange a dinner for two down by the beach at your own villa or at the Sea Pavilion where you can dine under the stars. You can pick from a surf and turf or barbeque menu or enjoy a very special meal created by your personal chef.
